JEAN-FRANÇOIS LABERGE

Jean-Francois is fluently bilingual in both English and French. His practice focuses on civil litigation and advocacy work, with a particular interest in insurance law. Jean-François has successfully represented and litigated matters for Francophone and Anglophone clients from Ontario, Quebec, France, Dubai and several African countries.

He has acted both for individual and corporate clients, the latter ranging from bars and condominium corporations, to municipalities and school boards.

Jean-François has proven litigation experience in personal injury cases, with an emphasis placed on conflict of laws, election of benefits and jurisdictional issues arising out of motor vehicle accidents. Jean-François routinely provides legal advice to his clients regarding insurance coverage questions and issues relating to Directors’ and Officers’ liability.

He has litigated professional negligence claims, long term disability insurance claims, occupier’s liability cases, wills and estate disputes, construction lien cases as well as commercial contract and partnership disputes.

Jean-François is very involved in the legal community: He taught the Insurance Law course and Corporate Law course at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ottawa – French Common Law Section. He currently sits on the Board of the Association des juristes d’expression française de l’Ontario (A.J.E.F.O.) as the Regional Representative for the Outaouais Region. He was the founder and first ever President of the Young Lawyers Committee of the A.J.E.F.O. He sits on the New Lawyers & Articling Students Planning Committee of the County of Carleton Law Association and provides pro bono legal services to local not-for-profit organizations.

He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association, Ontario Bar Association, Carleton County Law Association, l’Association des juristes d’expression française de l’Ontario and the Advocates’ Society.
